Signs

metal sign frame with paper insert

How does an environmentalist who is opposed to single-use plastics deal with campaign signs, which are typically either coated cardboard, or corrugated plastic?

A sound approach to working with materials is to either work entirely with recycled or recyclable materials, or to use materials in such a way that they last for a long time without decay.

For this campaign, both strategies were used.

Above you see a metal frame with a clear lens that protects a plain recyclable paper sign. The frames can be reused for years, and will be available for other events and campaigns. For now, there are 17 of these reusable frames around town.

Below are some handmade signs. The campaign encourages everyone who wants a sign to ask for one of these or make their own out of reused, reusable, or recyclable material. You can use a wooden stake to keep it in the ground, or the campaign has many remnants of the metal supports of old yard signs that can be used. Depending on your choice of material, you may need to take the signs in when it rains or snows.

Let the campaign know you want a sign on the ‘How To Help’ form, and someone will be in touch!

The sign frames were an investment in a future where single-use plastic isn’t used. If you want to help with this investment, please go to the donations page. And thank-you!
