(Selectman Peter Berry’s letter to the Acton Beacon)
I will be voting for Jim Snyder-Grant on March 31st to fill one of the two open positions on the Acton Board of Selectman.
I began working with Jim during my first term as Selectman in 2007 when Jim was Chair of the Land Stewardship Committee, which defines and implements standards of care for Acton’s conservation lands. Jim led the LSC’s efforts to construct and maintain trails and to increase awareness of the benefits of land conservation and the protection of natural habitats and resources.
Jim helped the Town develop the Acton Power Choice “greener” electric supply option for residents. Jim’s knowledge of environmental issues will be an asset to the Town in implementing the Acton Environmental Sustainability Policy.
Jim knows how to work effectively with teams to gather facts, research options for solutions and put in place a plan for achieving goals. Where there are differences of opinion, Jim listens respectfully, will clearly express reasons which support his position, but accepts the final decision of the democratic process.
Jim demonstrated his commitment to consider all the facts when supporting the Town’s Kelley’s Corner initiative, despite his initial reservations over safety and the environmental impact. Jim studied the facts and determined that the design provides greater safety for pedestrians, bikers and drivers. Jim’s considered, deliberate approach to making decisions among competing options is the kind of skill the Town needs in its leaders.
I urge you to vote for Jim Snyder-Grant for Selectman on March 31.
