Endorsement: Nancy Tavernier

(From Nancy Tavernier’s letter to the Acton Beacon)

I am supporting Jim Snyder-Grant who is running for the Acton Board of Selectmen.  Serving as a Selectman has become far more demanding now than when I was a member of the Board back in the 90’s.  Today’s elected officials face ever increasing challenges due to the limited resources and the greater demands being made on government. It takes a specific person with time, interest, energy, and skills to focus on the issues and embrace this challenge.  Jim is that person.

A good Selectman is open-minded and respectful of those with differing opinions. Jim and I have not always agreed on certain issues but he has been respectful of my positions and has been a willing listener.  Jim is committed to bringing more affordable housing to Acton, focusing on smaller units for seniors, people with disabilities, and people with limited means. So am I.

Being well-prepared for the meetings is important, that means studying the background material prior to the meetings, seeking out answers to questions, and coming prepared to take votes. Jim will be this kind of Selectman.  Jim has a record of local service that is extraordinary, he has served on seven town boards and organizations with a focus on the environment.

There are two openings on the Board of Selectmen this year with four candidates running.  The March 31 election will present an opportunity for voters to choose the best candidates for the job.  I plan to vote for Jim Snyder-Grant and I hope you will too.
